Job Summary

The Pap Hub and Spoke RN Coordinator is a Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for receiving of results and tracking of Pap and HPV testing. The RN in this role is instrumental in assessing, developing, and implementing the foundational processes and procedures of the program. This position maintains a database of patient risk factors and historical testing for existing patients.

Major Duties

The Pap Hub & Spoke is a Women's Health initiative to centralize and standardize the cervical cancer screening & surveillance. The interdisciplinary team of Registered Nurses and a Gynecologist work collaboratively to interpret normal and abnormal Pap test results utilizing the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP) guidelines and recommend the best course of follow up or treatment based upon the patient's history and risk factors. These RNs will be leaders in the spread of this initiative to Spoke sites at participating Health Systems in the Midwest Network and the nation. Major duties include but are not limited to: Collects and documents patient history and risk factors for cervical cancer through chart review, retrieval of records and patient interview. Responsible for receiving cytology and HPV results through the electronic medical record. Utilizes clinical decisions support algorithms, considering past cervical cancer screening results and risk factors to determine the appropriate interval for ongoing surveillance or indicated follow up based on ASCCP guidelines. Collaborates with the Pap Hub team (Pap Hub Gynecologist) to determine appropriate follow up for results requiring clinical decision making. Notifies patients and the primary care team of results and appropriate next steps. Consults gynecology service for follow up testing as indicated. Participates in quality assurance and improvement initiatives. Pap Hub and Spoke RN Coordinators will work in a partnership and provide coverage for each other during periods of absence (illness, vacation). Pap Hub and Spoke RN Coordinators will have ongoing communication and may provide training with Women's Health Nurse Navigators at Spoke sites. Occasional regional travel.
