The primary purpose of the Performance Improvement Nurse is to utilize their expertise by executing their knowledge and their degree of critical analysis of a variety of different VA and/or VHA outcomes databases including but not limited to VHA Support Service Center (VSSC), the External Peer Review Program (EPRP), Strategic Analytics for Improvement and Learning (SAIL), and Inpatient Evaluation Center (IPEC).
Major duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following: Demonstrates proficiency in decision-making and using the nursing process for complex situations that effect performance outcomes at the point of care. Uses advanced specialized knowledge and judgement to evaluate care against evidence-based care practices to answer a wide range of questions regarding clinical outcomes.
Uses a team approach to identify, analyze, and resolve patient care problems with measurable outcomes. Prepares reports on the status of the program and completes requests for updates on the program from the various stakeholders. Uses standardized tools to execute their job function such as LEAN Methodologies and the plan, do, study, act (PDSA) cycle. Complies with Equal Employment Opportunity programs, partnerships, customer service standards and VA policies and procedures.
Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. Demonstrates critical thinking with efficiency and accuracy in assessing and managing situations. Completes recurring reports and other programmatic requirements in a timely manner.
Adheres to all relevant VA/VHA handbooks/directives/policies on fostering a high reliability environment which supports a culture of psychological safety and takes action as appropriate to support all employees in the maintenance of a safety culture.
