Major Duties

Duties and Preferred Experience: The Quality Management (QM) Consultant Registered Nurse (RN) demonstrates leadership, experience, and creative approaches to improving quality-of-care outcomes across the organization. The QM Consultant's performance and leadership are broad enough to influence care for diverse patient populations. Program or service level outcomes must be broad and complex and may be demonstrated at any organizational level within the facility or off-site locations. Program is defined as a substantial coordinated group of activities impacting patients and/or employees. The QM Consultant is assigned responsibility for their designated quality management program area activities for the Medical Center and all affiliated, off-site locations. More than one year of experience working in PACT or clinic-based nursing is preferred. The QM Consultant collects data, monitors compliance with relevant policies, directives, and standards, prepares reports detailing trends, and provides support to all services in planning, designing, integrating, implementing, modifying, and administering a comprehensive quality management program area. The Consultant participates, and often presents, in facility councils, committees, and workgroups. The QM Consultant executes responsibilities that demonstrate effective leadership, detailed planning, professional communication, and creative and innovative approaches to improving safety and healthcare program development. The role requires the ability to organize several competing priorities and work collaboratively with leaders and staff to sustain a culture of safety, modeling High Reliability Organization (HRO) practices. The QM Consultant performs duties directly contributing to high-quality, safe patient care within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). These duties require the ability to apply specialized principles and practices to ensure a systems approach to healthcare delivery. The QM Consultant directly supports facility leadership in planning, organizing, developing, directing, and evaluating the quality program within the facility. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is required.
