Job Summary

This Intermittent position is located at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI, in the Medical Procedures Unit of the Acute Outpatient Division. The Endoscopy RN is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based procedural care to GI and Pulmonary patients and oversight of Medical Instrument Technicians, as appropriate to the procedural setting.

Key Responsibilities

The Endoscopy Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based procedural care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses and health/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the procedural setting. Assigned duties are, but not limited to: Providing patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management.

Assisting in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies, and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization. Delivering and managing the care of patients undergoing therapeutic and diagnostic endoscopy procedures including both inpatients and outpatients, including administration of RN sedation.

Assessing the patients physical and mental status prior to procedures, educates on procedural and post-procedural care, and documents responses to interventions, findings, and reports any changes. Partnering with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team to promote effective and safe transitions across the health care continuum, including the Veteran's goals of care. Providing peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement.

Questioning clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care. Participating in activities and strategies to sustain an evidence-based-practice culture. Other duties, as assigned.

The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), located at 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326.

The ACEN accredits all levels of nursing programs, including clinical doctorate, masters/post master's certificate, baccalaureate, associate and diploma nursing education programs. (Note: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission/NLNAC changed its name to ACEN in May 2013.

ACEN's website may be utilized to verify accredited programs using automated inquiry processes; however, for verification of any nursing program's accreditation prior to 1998, an automated inquiry cannot be used and ACEN must be contacted directly via their email contact information on the ACEN website to verify.) The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), located at 655 K Street, NW, Suite 7, Washington, DC 20001.

The CCNE is an accrediting arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and accredits nursing education programs at the bachelor and master's level.
