Job Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Key Responsibilities

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT. Applicants will be referred on an 'as needed' basis every 8-10 days. Announcement will remain open through 12/23/2026 but may be extended or closed if needed prior to the initial closing date. The Registered Nurse (RN) - Float Pool is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care.

The incumbent of this role assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age specific components. They also assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. The RN - Float Pool is also responsible for the following duties: Administering medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.

Influencing care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Demonstrating the core elements of performance, which include knowledge and active participation in the unit/program level quality improvement process and initiatives, as well as customer service programs. Providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses / nursing assistants, as appropriate to the setting.

Assisting in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation. Demonstrating leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others for all patient care areas included within Float Pool assignments. Providing direct and indirect nursing care to patients in multiple care units.

Evaluating practice in an ongoing process, based on best evidence. Providing peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement. Fostering a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals. Contributing professional nursing perspective in discussions with the interdisciplinary team. Partnering with others to effect change and produce optimal outcomes.

Supporting colleagues through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care. Sharing educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers. Identifying care needs between assigned units and reports findings within Shared Governance Structure and management. Other duties, as assigned. This staff nurse position will float between the following units as staffing is needed: Community Living Center (CLC), Medical/Surgical (4 East), Surgery, or Primary Care.

The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), located at 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326.

The ACEN accredits all levels of nursing programs, including clinical doctorate, masters/post master's certificate, baccalaureate, associate and diploma nursing education programs. (Note: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission/NLNAC changed its name to ACEN in May 2013.

ACEN's website may be utilized to verify accredited programs using automated inquiry processes; however, for verification of any nursing program's accreditation prior to 1998, an automated inquiry cannot be used and ACEN must be contacted directly via their email contact information on the ACEN website to verify.) The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), located at 655 K Street, NW, Suite 7, Washington, DC 20001.

The CCNE is an accrediting arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and accredits nursing education programs at the bachelor and master's level.
