Job Summary

The Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) Program Manager (PM) executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership skills and participates in safe patient handling and mobility experiences. They are responsible for leading a facility wide SPHM program for all services within the organization that meets the requirements of National Directives.

The SPHM PM continuously evaluates the Safe Patient Handling (SPH) program, collects, and submits facility SPH performance measures.

Key Responsibilities

The Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) Program Manager (PM) delivers fundamental knowledge-based care to assigned clients while developing technical skills. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age-specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.

Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Duties include but are not limited to: Responsible for regular/weekly travel to off campus sites (to include HCCs and CBOCs). Responsible for the development and conducting in person and/or virtual training about safe patient handling and mobility.

Responsible for making rounds throughout the facility, completing safe patient handling assessments, developing and implementing plans and required changes in collaboration with multiple services. Performs unit-based ergonomic assessments and provides reports to the NMs and Nursing Leadership. Assists in developing plans to address needs. Recruits and works directly with unit peer leaders and manages the unit peer leader program. Participates in hospital wide committees.

Ensures that appropriate SPHM equipment is included in hospital projects. Consults with services throughout the enterprise to practice safety and safe lifting to support the enterprise being a minimal lift facility.
