The Registered Nurse - Specialty Care Float is responsible for coordinating patient care with a focus on education, self-management, and overall satisfaction throughout the healthcare continuum. This role includes administering medications and procedures in accordance with established policies and guidelines. The RN collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to positively impact patient outcomes.
The Registered Nurse - Specialty Care Float delivers competent, evidence-based patient care and supervises licensed vocational nurses and nursing assistants according to the care setting. The nurse supports nursing education, orientation, competency assessment, and quality improvement activities that advance patient outcomes. They lead teams, participate in care conferences, and collaborate across all phases of patient care planning.
The role includes assessing the practice environment to identify efficient, cost-effective care strategies and driving improvements by monitoring and evaluating care outcomes. The nurse ensures understanding of care processes and the rationale behind clinical decisions, actively questioning practices to maintain adherence to evidence-based standards.
They enhance Veteran- and patient-centered care by resolving issues related to coordination, timeliness, processes, dissatisfaction themes, and environmental concerns. They act as a resource for addressing ethical issues within the practice setting and lead the application of high-reliability principles and I CARE values to support consistent, high-quality care.
The nurse must manage competing priorities effectively and demonstrate strong clinical competence, critical thinking, decision-making, and planning across all Specialty Care areas. The Registered Nurse - Specialty Care Float functions within the Specialty Care Department. Preferred Experience: Minimum three years of successful clinical nursing practice in surgical ambulatory care or outpatient wound care. Experience in patient care management is preferred.
