The Registered Nurse (RN) in Spinal Cord Injury & Disorders (SCI/D) provides competent, evidence-based care and oversight of licensed vocational nurses and nursing assistants. The RN supports nursing education, orientation, and competency development while contributing to quality improvement and outcomes-focused initiatives. The role demonstrates leadership in delivering holistic care and improving patient outcomes through effective collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
The Registered Nurse in Spinal Cord Injury & Disorders (SCI/D) is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and supervising direct patient care. The RN coordinates care with a focus on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. The role includes administering medications and procedures in accordance with established policies, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to influence positive care outcomes, and actively participating in quality improvement and customer service initiatives at the unit and program level. Duties include but not limited to the following: Evaluates practice in an ongoing process, based on best evidence. Provides peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals. Contributes professional nursing perspective in discussions with the interdisciplinary team. Partners with others to effect change and produce optimal outcomes. Supports colleagues through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care. Shares educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers. Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care. Participates in activities and strategies to sustain evidence-based-practice.
