Job Summary

The Wound Care RN is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising the management of patients/residents with acute and chronic wounds across clinical practice settings. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

The Wound Care Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the setting. Identifies and institutes preventive and treatment measure and monitors results of wound care delivered. Provide colleagues with useful tools to improve wound care knowledge, assessment, and management skills.

The Wound Care RN will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation. Analyzes resources available to staff and identifies risk areas, including quality metrics, supplies, equipment, availability of data and information to foster a safe and supportive environment for staff learning, educational and professional development.

Provides evaluation of the effectiveness of resources, equipment, supplies, and specialty advanced therapies currently in use and being considered for future use for wound assessment and management (and may include ostomy and continence care). Evaluates practice in an ongoing process, based on best evidence. Provides peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement.

Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals. Supports colleagues through wound care knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care. Shares educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers. Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care. Participates in activities and strategies to sustain an evidence based-practice culture.

The Wound Care RN has experience with the situations in which they are ultimately expected to perform, integrating theoretical concepts, strong critical thinking skills, and exhibits a robust technically skilled wound care practice. Preferred Experience: BSN Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN), Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON), or Certified Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse (CWOCN) highly desired.

2 years of experience in: Providing specialized wound care services to patients with acute and chronic wounds, including comprehensive wound assessments, development and implementation of evidence-based treatment plans, prevention and management of wound-related complications, and evaluation of patient outcomes. Providing patient, family, and staff education related to wound care and pressure injury prevention.

Leading or participating in pressure injury prevention programs, quality improvement initiatives, and performance improvement activities related to wound care services. Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday .Shift is TBD. Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
