Job Summary

The VA Western Colorado Health Care System is looking for a Risk Management Program Manager for the VISN 19 Grand Junction VAMC.

Key Responsibilities

The Nurse Program Manager (PM) Registered Nurse (RN) executes position responsibilities that demonstrates leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the management of program aspects. The Risk Manager demonstrates performance and leadership that is broad enough to impact the standard of care and safety of staff while caring for all patients throughout the continuum of care.

The Risk Manager is responsible for leading a facility wide program for all services within the organization that meets the requirements of National Directives. They will oversee the provision of staff education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement consultation related to the program. Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others.

Evaluates practice in an ongoing process, based on best evidence. Provides peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals. Contributes professional nursing perspective in discussions with the interdisciplinary team. Partners with others to effect change and produce optimal outcomes. Shares educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers.

Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care. Participates in activities and strategies to sustain an evidence-based-practice culture. The PM continuously evaluates the program, collecting and submitting facility performance measures.

The RM providers leaderships as a Subject Matter Expert in risk management activities, regulatory requirements and will oversee implementation of a successful risk management program that minimizes the probability of adverse risk to patients, personnel and visitors, and protects the assets of the facility by accurately identifying, reporting, trending, reviewing, correcting problems leading to incidents through risk identification and analysis.

The RM possesses comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of the health care field with emphasis on quality, safety, utilization, and performance improvement. The incumbent also possesses strong skills in consulting, education, database and information management, evaluation techniques, group processes, team and organizational development, and customer service and satisfaction.

Application of such knowledge muist include a systems perspective to appropriately influence care across the continuum. This position works with information of a confidential nature, to include but not limited to staff performance related to regulatory compliance and tort claims. It is imperative that the facility has a high degree of confidence that this information is treated with utmost sensitivity.
