Key Responsibilities

Summary The Ambulatory Care Nursing University (ACNU) serves as the centralized education hub for all outpatient nursing services within the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System. ACNU develops, delivers, and evaluates evidence-based education designed to strengthen nursing practice, ensure regulatory compliance, and support organizational priorities across multiple clinic settings.

This position plays a critical role in advancing staff readiness, promoting consistent practice standards, and supporting emerging initiatives across the ambulatory care service line. Responsibilities Develop and deliver education for Ambulatory Care Nursing staff to enhance clinical knowledge, promote evidence-based nursing practice, and ensure competency across diverse outpatient settings.

Design and implement innovative training using multiple modalities such as virtual learning, in-person sessions, simulations, micro-learning, and emerging digital platforms to meet varied learner needs. Collaborate with interdisciplinary partners to create aligned and consistent education for new practices, workflows, and clinical initiatives.

Develop competency management and implementation training that supports clinical project, and continuity plans that support clinical projects, ensure standardization, and promote rapid adoption of updates within Ambulatory Care Nursing. Conduct annual education needs assessments and participate in ACNU strategic planning to ensure training meets regulatory, operational, and workforce development requirements.

Supports professional role development by identifying growth needs, facilitating role transition, and fostering lifelong learning to advance staff from novice to expert within the ambulatory care setting Supports onboarding to promote successful role integrations. Maintain accurate documentation of education activities by tracking records and embedding training data into designated learning management systems (e.g., VA TMS).

Ensure regulatory alignment with Joint Commission, VHA directives, OIG findings, and other accreditation bodies when designing or revising educational materials. Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs using feedback, competency assessments, performance metrics, and quality outcomes to support continuous improvement.

Travel up to 20% within the VASNHS catchment area to provide onsite training, competency validation, and project-related educational support across all clinics. Preferred Competencies Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred. Ability to lead educational initiatives across multiple clinics. Knowledge of adult learning theory, educational design, and competency evaluation.

Familiarity with VHA policies, quality measures, workflows, and documentation systems. Experience developing education aligned with regulatory and accreditation standards. Skill in analyzing trends, identifying training gaps, and developing responsive learning strategies. Demonstrated experience in clinical education, curriculum development, or staff training. Experience in ambulatory care, outpatient nursing, or specialty clinic environments preferred.

Strong communication, collaboration, and project-management skills. Proficiency with education technology platforms, virtual learning modalities, and learning management systems.
