Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN)- Infection Preventionist at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care system (VAPAHCS) practices within the Infection Prevention and control (IP&C) section of the Office of Quality, Safety and Value (QSV). IP&C is a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary health care system-wide program designed to educate, monitor, prevent, and control infections and their adverse effects on patients, employees, trainees, volunteers, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday- Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm; On Call Hours Required Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.

Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provides expert consultation and serves as a resources to all health-related disciplines.

Functions as a key staff member for the interpretation, coordination, implementation and documentations of IP&C- related recommendations/standards issued by relevant professional organizations, i.e., The joint Commission (TJC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and others.

Performs routine surveillance of healthcare-associated infections on a routine basis and outbreak investigations as warranted, utilizing knowledge and experience in microbiology, epidemiology, and infection prevention and control. Designs, participates in, and supports IP&C research activities, reviews recommended interventions prosed by research studies, and evaluates effectiveness of implementation.
