Job Summary

You will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Managerwith National Park Service. This position is located in the Office of the Superintendent section of Glacier National Park. GS-12 Salary: $89,508 (Step 01) to $116,362 (Step 10). First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.

Key Responsibilities

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Oversees the Safety program at Glacier National Park. Develops the safety education program for Glacier National Park employees and supervisors. Evaluates park programs and operation to ensure safety standards, regulations and goals are met. Performs saftey inspections and accident/incident investigations.

Reviews plans, specifications, architectural and engineering drawings submitted by concessionaires, contractors and the National Park Service for various types of construction, major rehabilitation or alteration of facilities. Serves as a standing member of the Technical Board of Investigation for serious injuries or government property damage mishaps occurring within the park units.

Provides technical safety and occupational health guidance to supervisors responsible for hazardous activities pursued by public visitors such as use of snowmobiles, scuba diving, skiing, and mountain and cliff climbing, where standard safety criteria are not published.

Works closely with park Public Information Officers, Chief Rangers and Chiefs of Interpretations in developing good safety, fire and occupational health information for presentation in the park interpretive programs, handouts, and informational contacts, as well as in formal news releases, media public service messages and park publications.
