Job Summary

This position is located in Washington Headquarters Service (WHS), Security Enterprise Services Directorate (SESD), in the SCI Management Division (SMD) and will serve as a Security Specialist responsible for providing WHS security support.

The SESD provides security support to senior managers in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, WHS, The Director of Administration and Management (DA&M) and to DoD, Congressional, and Presidential established boards, commissions, and task forces.

Key Responsibilities

The SESD operates in a fast-paced, high demand environment, providing support to some of the senior-most leadership of the Department of War. Security responsibilities include Industrial Security. Information Security, Operations Security, Personnel Security, Physical Security, SCI Administration, Mission Assurance, Controlled Unclassified Information, Insider Threat, Classification Review, and Counterintelligence Awareness and Reporting.

Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) programs, providing authoritative advice and recommendations to senior leadership on security vulnerabilities, risk mitigation, and program effectiveness.

Plan, implement, and monitor comprehensive security programs across multiple disciplines, including personnel, physical, information, and industrial security, ensuring compliance with all policies and regulations. Interpret high-level security directives, such as Executive Orders and Intelligence Community Directives (ICDs), to develop and implement local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and security plans tailored to specific operational needs.

Conduct comprehensive security assessments, inspections, and sensitive security inquiries to identify deficiencies, ensure compliance, and recommend corrective actions for facilities and programs. Develop and conduct security training, briefings, and educational programs for employees and contractors to ensure a high level of security awareness across the organization.

Adjudicate complex personnel security cases involving significant derogatory or conflicting information and support the full lifecycle of Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) operations, including build-outs and indoctrinations.

Requirements & Education

Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. All education claimed by applicants will be verified by the appointing agency. If selected, an official/sealed transcript will be required prior to appointment. PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis.

If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S.
