Job Summary

The Senior Social Worker serves on a multidisciplinary team and is administrative responsibility for clinical program development, accountable for clinical program effectiveness and program facilitation. These positions provide support to the National Center for Warrior Independence at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System in Los Angeles, California.

Duties may include but are not limited to: Housing and Urban Development- Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH): Provides case management services to a special patient population that demonstrates highly complex psychosocial, health or mental health problems.

Provides clinical and administrative compliance during their course of providing Veterans with direct services and/or connecting homeless Veterans to the services and resources that will enable them to secure safe, affordable, quality permanent housing. Provides information and referrals to VA programs in their provision of case management services. Establishes and maintains effective therapeutic relationships with Veterans and their families when appropriate.

Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) Street Outreach: Supervises and assists in planning, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures, developing individual or group goals and objectives as well as monitoring, operating, evaluating, and overseeing the Clinical and Administrative operations of the HCHV Street Outreach team and provides direct supervision to Social Workers and Peer Support Specialists.

Ensure staff whom they supervise are aware of, adhere to all current directives of VHA and meet current Joint Commission and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) standards, State licensure standards and VA-Office of Inspector General (OIG) expectations.

Provides orientation and ongoing training to subordinate staff and takes responsibility for providing opportunities to help staff update their clinical practice skills and acquire new knowledge in contemporary treatment modalities. Care, Treatment, and Rehabilitation Service (CTRS): Provides case management services to a special patient population that demonstrates highly complex psychosocial, health or mental health problems.

Has advanced knowledge and experience in the use of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, and treatment procedures, including acute, chronic, and traumatic illnesses and injuries, common medications and their effects, side effects, and medical terminology. Independently provides consultation services to other VA staff regarding the psychosocial needs of homeless Veterans and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and adherence to treatment plans.

Work Schedule: Various tours of duty based on the needs of the service. Compressed/Flexible: May be available based on the needs of the service. Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Not available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
