This position, located at the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System, Facilities Management Service, provides support to the medical center by constructing, installing and repairing HVAC systems and other structures throughout the medical center.
Major duties of this position include but are not limited to... Performs the most complex or unusually complicated aspects of sheet metal work such as designing, constructing and installing unconventionally shaped ductwork curves, bends, transitions, reducers, etc.
Develops patterns for items having numerous and irregular angles, plans and curves and applies principles of radial-line development combined with parallel-line development Uses complicated shop mathematics to figure irregular cuts, angles, and pitch.
Bends or forms items to a variety of angles or curves with varying pitch or circumference Works independently to develop plans arid templates to construct, assemble and install irregular items and systems that have various combinations of features such as cornices, canopies, transition elbows, and oblique, truncated or frustum cones Uses complicated measuring instruments to evaluate structural damage to systems to replace damaged sheet metal or install new systems Works with many kinds of metals, including stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb material, and aluminum alloys Uses complex hand and power machines such as slip roll forming machines, box and pan brakes, shears, Pittsburgh forming machine, rotary machines with extra forming rolls, welding equipment, crimpers, find beading machines Uses more complex fastening methods such as dovetail seams, set-in bottom seams, burred-bottom seams, wired or lock scams and welded seams Uses hand or powered crimping, burning, turning and beading machines as well as soldering and welding equipment Accurately measures air flow, determines duct sizes, plans duct routes and makes alterations to a system without constricting its working integrity Reads blueprints and performs takeoffs for material ordering Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Sheet Metal Mechanic/PD12680A Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not Approved Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized
