The Fargo VAHCS is recruiting for a Social Worker (Program Coordinator) for the Rehab and Extended Care service line. This role provides program oversight for social workers coordinating Veteran Directed Care, Medical Foster Home, Behavioral Recovery Outreach, Contract Nursing Home, and Spinal Cord Injury programs. The incumbent also supervises social workers in the Home Based Primary Care program, Community Living Center, as well as program support staff for REC social work programs.

This position is responsible for oversight and coordination with three State Veterans Homes located in Bemidji, Fergus Falls, and Lisbon. The incumbent serves as the primary liaison between the Fargo VAMC and these State Veterans Homes, ensuring effective communication, compliance with regulatory standards, and promotion of best practices in veteran care. Key duties include collaborating with State Veterans Home staff on matters of care quality and safety, addressing and resolving concerns, and facilitating educational initiatives as appropriate. The incumbent works directly with the National Point of Duty (POD) System of Care to support and coordinate efforts related to regulatory surveys and compliance. The position is also responsible for completing comprehensive issue briefs related to sentinel and adverse events within the State Veterans Homes, ensuring accurate documentation and timely follow-up in accordance with VA and national guidelines. Duties include, but are not limited to: Supervises a group of employees performing work at the GS-12 level and below, including but not limited to advanced practice & frontline social workers, social work program coordinators, and support staff. The incumbent provides administrative, technical, and clinical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit. Performs the administrative, clinical, and personnel management function relative to the staff supervised. The incumbent will have established guidelines and performance expectations for staff, clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system. S/he will observe workers' performance and conducts work performance critiques. S/he provides formal and informal feedback and regularly evaluates employee performance. The incumbent works to resolve informal complaints and grievances; develops work improvement plans, recommending personnel actions as necessary; provides advice, mentorship, and counseling to workers related to work and administrative matters. Performs work related to the review, monitoring, analysis, planning and assessment of various programs. S/he may be responsible for key project activities related to the planning, development, and implementation of the project component. A substantial portion of the workload directed by this position will be carried out at more than one location, and will include staff who work remotely, making day-to-day supervision more challenging to administer. May be responsible to serve as the Acting Executive of the Social Work Service in the absence of the Social Work Executive.
