Based at the Birmingham East VA Clinic (BEVAC)l the Supervisory Social Worker serves as a clinical supervisor within the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP)l which provides general mental health care. The position reports to the BHIP Program Manager and ultimately to the Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health (ACOS MH).

Exercises supervisory authority in work assignment and workload distribution. The incumbent performs the following remedying actions: Resolves informal complaints and grievances; Establishes and executes performance improvement plans; Makes personnel recommendations; The incumbent performs the following operational duties: Reviews and approves or disapproves leave requests; Ensures that direct reports are trained and fully comply with the provisions of the safety regulations as appropriate for general and area specific operations; Reviewing and assuring that the documentation of the assigned staff reflects the services provided and meets TJC, Health Care System, and mental health documentation standards. The incumbent performs the following duties related to the area of mentoring: Provides work-related advice and counsel to employees with the goal of further developing careers of direct reports, as deemed appropriate by incumbent and in line with employees' clinical disciplines and practice areas. The incumbent performs the following duties related to the area of clinical guidance: Coordinates and monitors clinical training/development of direct reports who provide psychotherapy, mental health assessments, care management, and other psychosocial services. Responsible for assessing, verifying, monitoring, and reporting on the clinical competency of direct reports providing these services. Considers and recommends staff members for further clinical training and development based on staff abilities, goals, and clinic operational needs. Clinical Responsibilities: Provides comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments. Identifies treatment needs. Facilitates referral, linkage, and coordination with appropriate medical, psychotherapeutic, and psychiatric services. All other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 08:00 - 16:30 pm.
