This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.
Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Social Worker - Suicide Prevention Case Manager (SPCM) will serve as a member of the Suicide Prevention to support the implementation of suicide prevention strategies within the medical center to help ensure that all appropriate measures are being taken to prevent suicide in our patient population.
Major duties include, but are not limited to: Support for the identification of Veterans at high risk; coordinating enhanced care when needed. Conducts VA-approved screenings and evaluations of Veterans when identified as being in crisis or at risk for hurting self or others.
Uses the established biopsychosocial admissions criteria to determine the appropriateness of Veterans referred to the MHC for service in the different treatment components with special emphasis on crisis intervention. Provides trauma-informed treatment with a special emphasis on crisis intervention and stabilization.
Manages a caseload of Veterans at high risk for suicide, involving regular monitoring, conducting risk assessments, providing crisis intervention, and coordinating care with interdisciplinary treatment teams to promote safety and continuity of care. Respond promptly to suicide prevention hotline consults and internal team consults, ensuring timely follow-up and intervention for Veterans identified as at risk.
Collaborate with inpatient treatment providers/practitioners to support appropriate discharge planning following recommendations for treatment of Veterans at high risk for suicide. Assist with provision of on-going Operation SAVE Training program for new employees and non-clinical frontline staff, such as clerks, and as needed, to assure that all VA staff are aware of options for Veterans with whom they come in contact during crisis situations.
Conduct outreach to community resources such as Veteran Service Organizations and other community groups to assure awareness of recognizing Veterans at risk of suicide and treatment options for these Veterans. Conducts outreaches at public events. All other duties as assigned, pertaining to this occupation, to meet the needs of the Agency, Department, Facility, and/or Service.
