This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.
Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional This Social Worker position is licensed to independently practice social work and is assigned to Social Work Service (SWS) and is responsible for providing outpatient social work in the Birmingham VA Primary Care.
This position is located in the Housing and Urban Development-VA Supportive Housing (HUD VASH) Program, which falls under the Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) Program of Social Work Service, at the Birmingham VA Health Care System (BVAHCS) Duties include but not limited to the following: The incumbent provides comprehensive social work services to Veterans and their families.
Coordinates care including serving as an advocate on behalf of the Veterans to ensure comprehensive service delivery and linking and referring Veterans to the VA Medical Center, VA Regional Offices and/or community agencies. Performs site visits of HUD-VASH apartments to ensure that Veterans reside in safe environments in compliance with local housing codes. Provides assistance in house search which in not limited to transporting.
Verifies the Veteran's status, eligibility for VA medical care, and eligibility of program participation. Ensures that homeless Veterans are considered as primary participants for program acceptance. Collects and submits HUD-VASH Program participant data as outlined by NEPEC evaluation procedures including accurate and timely documentation into HOMES.
Complies with criminal conflict of interest laws and Executive Branch Standards of conduct to avoid conflicts of interest while serving as the HUD-VASH Case Manager. Actively participates in the HUD-VASH Program conference calls and attends training offered by the HUD-VASH.
Responsible for improving professional skills, participating in planning and executing specific staff development projects, attending seminars and institutes, and participating in training programs of other disciplines as requested. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. Subject to change based on agency needs.
