Job Summary

The VA New York Harbor Healthcare system is currently recruiting one Social Worker for the Social Work service at the Brooklyn Campus location. The services provided by the social worker include direct practice, multidisciplinary practice, community practice, training, research, and student supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Major duties include but are not limited to: Provide professional social work services to clients with a broad range of psychosocial and environmental problems. Independently manage complex cases, exercising mature professional judgment. Deliver individual, group, family, couple, and program development services for target populations. Apply a variety of theories and models, integrating and adapting them to client biopsychosocial situations.

Participate in treatment teams, work groups, and coordination efforts. Collaborate and consult with other disciplines and community agencies. Engage in formal and informal conferences and team meetings to evaluate, design, and implement programming. Conduct public relations, resource development, and resource coordination. Develop and maintain linkages with community agencies for service coordination. Outreach to Veterans who are admitted to our Contract Nursing Homes.

Train social work and multidisciplinary staff. Supervise students and confer with Schools of Social Work regarding student progress. Participate in staff development activities as both participant and presenter. Engage in research as needed. Maintain clinical records, reports, statistical and administrative reporting in compliance with standards. Prepare for supervisory conferences and committee work.

Develop programs for special emphasis populations (e.g., homeless, veterans). Gain additional training for specialized programs as required. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Available.
