Job Summary

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications is September 4, 2026 and applicants will be referred on an 'as needed' basis thereafter. Announcement will remain open through 09/30/2026 but may be extended or closed after the initial cut-off date if needed prior to the initial closing date. Note: Vacancies may not currently exist at Detroit VA, but may later prior to the closing date.

Key Responsibilities

The specific clinical duties, patient population, work schedule, and responsibilities will be determined based on the physician's specialty, qualifications, clinical privileges, and the needs of the VA Medical Center. Full-time and part-time positions are available across a variety of medical specialties. Salary range varies by scop of practice and physician experience. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting The Detroit VA Medical Center is seeking dedicated and compassionate Physicians to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care to our nation's Veterans.

As a Physician, you will work within an interdisciplinary healthcare team to promote health, prevent disease, and manage acute and chronic health conditions. Primary responsibilities include, but may not be limited to: Provides comprehensive, patient-centered medical care within the physician's assigned clinical specialty and scope of practice. Evaluates, diagnose, and manage patients with acute, chronic, and complex medical conditions.

Obtains and documents comprehensive medical histories and performs physical examinations and other appropriate clinical assessments. Develops, implements, and modifies individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings, current standards of care, and patient needs. Performs medical procedures and/or specialty-specific interventions consistent with training, privileges, and competency.

Coordinates care with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to promote continuity, safety, and quality of care. Complies with VA clinical policies, medical staff bylaws, accreditation requirements, and applicable federal and sate laws and regulations. Collaborates with nurses, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated patient care.

Performs other duties as assigned based on the needs of the medical facility and the physician's qualifications, privileges, and scope of practice. Work Schedule: Negotiable Full-time and part-time available based of the needs of the assigned service

Requirements & Education

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.

Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.

NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.

The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
