Come Join Our Team! The Salem VA Medical Center is looking for a Staff Psychologist in Home Based Primary Care (HBPC). The HBPC Psychologist functions as the primary mental health provider for the HBPC team, providing mental health prevention, assessment, treatment, management, and professional consultation services. This position is located within the Department of VA, Veterans Health Administration, Salem VAHCS, Salem VAMC, Mental Health Service Line in Salem, Virginia.
Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include but are not limited to: Provide screening, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. Assess and provide treatments for sub-clinical symptoms. Provide psychological prevention services to patients at significant risk for psychological problems. Provide services to the families of Veterans with dementia being served by HBPC when such care is directly related to the overall treatment plan for the Veteran. Provide clinical services through the use of telemental health technology. Provide screening for cognitive deficits to address specific functional questions or to determine if a referral for a complete neuropsychological evaluation or dementia assessment is needed. Perform capacity/competency assessments. Provide individual and group interventions to support patients that are coping with feelings of grief and loss associated with disability and other life transitions. Provide effective interventions with couples or families, when appropriate, to relieve relationship difficulties, provide support to caregivers of Veterans. Facilitate transition and adjustment to new living situations. Provide behavioral medicine interventions to manage pain, disability, address sleep problems, facilitate weight loss, promote smoking cessation, and enhance medical compliance. Promote communication/interactions between medical team members, patients, and their families to facilitate the medical treatment process. The incumbent reports directly to a supervisory psychologist within the Mental Health Service Line. This position requires frequent driving within the Salem VA Health Care System commuting area to meet with Veterans and community providers. Work Schedule: 7:45am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday Compressed/Flexible: May be authorized at supervisory discretion. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
