Job Summary

This position serves as a Supervisory Aviation Safety Inspector (GAO) in AFS-800 who will manage a Flight Standards organization and direct the work of multiple organizational units and subordinate employees. This position may be filled as a Front-Line or Middle Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Will report to the applicable manager of the assigned organization and will execute the agency's aviation safety mission, communicate and build change coalitions; seek out opportunities to support change across the organization; and employ best practices for sponsoring change and manage resistance.

Responsible for aviation safety activities in a complex and dynamic air carrier and/or general aviation environment that includes experience in one or more of the following specialties: Operations, Avionics, Maintenance, Cabin Safety and Dispatch Applies advanced knowledge of the technical aspects of the work directed and ensures the promotion of the highest level of safety compliance with regulatory standards while utilizing transparency of data exchange that includes the identification of hazards and management of risk.

Manages and sets clear performance standards that promote accountability, a sense of individual responsibility, professionalism, and pride for organizational performance to subordinates. Responsible for the leadership, planning, prioritizing, direction, communication, tasking, training, and scheduling of work. Responsible for time and attendance, leave approval, performance evaluation, corrective and disciplinary actions, and setting front line office goals and objectives.

Supports effective problem solving by ensuring subordinates are accountable to address challenges and barriers and are clear about roles and responsibilities for decision-making. Confirms active collaboration occurs beyond the organization and that solutions fully consider and represent all relevant perspectives/interests. Models creative thinking and innovation. Delegates work and empower subordinates to decentralize decision-making.

Confirms subordinates take on expected work and produce intended results with minimal intervention. Applies advanced knowledge of budget, human resource management, and other administrative policies and procedures, and an advanced understanding of the objectives of the major subdivision. Makes effective resourcing decisions across several work teams; making certain they deliver expected output within required time frame and budget.

Adjusts resourcing plans as needed to meet changing work conditions. Defines, plans, and organizes assigned budget, staff and other resources to accomplish objectives for more than one organizational team. Resolves all but unique problems without the intervention of higher-level management.

Holds subordinates accountable for maintaining mutually productive partnerships with stakeholders as demonstrated by productive conflict and effective action taking to address issues impeding effectiveness. Meets with stakeholders regularly to identify potential impediments to team and organizational effectiveness. Works as a member of a leadership team and contributes to problem-solving beyond own function.

Effectively aligns with other managers on organizational initiatives, strategies, and goals; testing for alignment with overarching business needs and ensures the team maintains shared accountability to commitments and agreements. Contacts are primarily within the organization, major subdivision and with the LOB/SO and higher-level management. Oversees aviation safety program functions that require access to classified information and systems up to the secret level.

Attends meetings with executive leadership on topics that are sensitive or contain classified information. Demonstrates leadership and commitment to the FAA model EEO program.
