This Supervisory Chaplain position is located at the VA Boston Healthcare System, Brockton, Massachusetts. The position is full-time at 40 hours per week.
This position serves as the Supervisory Chaplain professional performing supervisory and senior clinical assignments for the VHA. The incumbent provides comprehensive religious, spiritual, and pastoral care to all persons that are commensurate with the needs, desires, and voluntary consent of the Veteran, caregiver, or staff.
The incumbent addresses the spiritual component of health and wellness in every patient care setting to ensure that pastoral care is fully integrated into all aspects of chaplain services. Duties may include, but are not limited to: Manages a moderately complex to very complex chaplain service program. Supervises the professional practice of all facility chaplains and provides chaplaincy services and programming.
Manages and oversees all religious and spiritual care and provides counsel to facility leadership concerning religious expression. Serves as an active participant and a key administrative staff member of the organization with VHA's leadership. Develops local policy, productivity, and clinical practice standards.
Provides supervision with full responsibility for assignment of work, performance evaluations, selection of staff, recommendation of awards, advancements, and disciplinary actions. Maintains records, supplies, and religious equipment for the assigned program; and tracks and maintains the program's budget. Maintains chapel space and oversees the distribution of space, inventory, and resources needed for providing spiritual care, education, and programming.
Provides support to individual(s) for unit emergencies, natural disasters, man-made disasters, or planned special events. Conducts regular rounds of hospital wards where patients are critically ill. Provides guidance and support for patients to express values through processes such as life review, oral history, and end of life preparation and documentation.
Administers ordinances, rites, or sacraments; prepares and delivers sermons; arranges for the atmosphere and symbolism of worship; and conducts funeral services when needed. Communicates effectively, both in writing and verbally, with persons of varied backgrounds to prepare Chaplain Service-related policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines on the service delivery area. Spends minimally amount of time in patient care.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30 pm Telework: Not Available. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Functional Statement #: F1861 Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: May be authorized. Financial Disclosure Report: Required, selectee must file a financial disclosure report, OGE Form 450, within 30 days of onboarding and then annually. This position is not a Bargaining Unit position. This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay. The incumbent may be required to travel to other VA campuses and CBOC's. May be required to attend conference at other facilities or other VA sites on occasion. Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action).
The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held. Narrative responses to the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) may be required from the selectee in order to proceed with the appointment. Veterans' preference does not apply for internal or other current permanent Federal agency employees.

****Physical Requirements: This position requires the Chaplain to meaningfully engage with Veteran patients and family members by walking and moving within the healthcare setting or with the incumbent using an assistive device.
