Job Summary

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist at this level has full supervisory responsibility for a staff of non-supervisory personnel. The laboratory is a complexity level index group 1 based on the Hospital Complexity Level as designated in Office of Productivity, Efficiency and Staffing (OPES) VHA Facility Complexity Model History.

Major Duties

Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Serves as proxy for the Laboratory Manager during his/her absence. Exercise a full range of supervisory responsibilities in planning, directing, and assessing work of subordinate staff. Recommend appointments, awards, advancement, and disciplinary actions. Adjust staffing levels or work procedures to accommodate resource allocation decisions made at the executive level. Develops performance standards, position descriptions, and functional statements and is responsible for technical and administrative management of an assigned area including budget execution. Serves as an alternate Contracting Officer Representative (COR) with responsibility for several PLMS contracts. Provides assistance with P&LMS budgetary functions, resource usage, inventory, acquisition, and other contracting processes. Serves as P&LMS liaison to affiliated universities, colleges, and cooperating consortiums (i.e., coordinating student rotations, providing assistance with establishing and maintaining affiliation agreements, and serving on advisory committees). Serves as P&LMS site administrator for employee training and document control platforms. Interacts with the Quality Manager to ensure compliance with accreditation agencies and regulatory requirements; provides assistance with process improvement activities and the overall quality management program. Maintains effective interdisciplinary and interprofessional relations with other services to accomplish medical center goals.
