What will I do in this position if hired? As a Supervisory Emergency Management Specialist, you will supervise branch staff responsible for non-disaster mitigation assistance programs, including assigning work, setting priorities, reviewing work products, evaluating performance, supporting development, and resolving work issues. Typical duties include: - Providing technical oversight and guidance to an interdisciplinary team reviewing mitigation assistance projects to ensure proposed activities support risk reduction objectives and align with program requirements, cost effectiveness standards, grants management requirements, environmental and historic preservation requirements, and other applicable compliance obligations. - Overseeing mitigation assistance grants through the award lifecycle while ensuring project eligibility, budget, scope of work, feasibility, and recipient compliance are properly evaluated and documented. - Interpreting and applying mitigation program statutes, regulations, policies, directives, internal controls, and program guidance to resolve technical, programmatic, eligibility, cost effectiveness, grants management, and compliance issues affecting project approval and program delivery. - Coordinating with federal, state, local, Tribal, and territorial, partners and advises senior leadership on mitigation program delivery, recipient risk, operational challenges, funding issues, performance trends, corrective actions, and recommendations for improving regional program effectiveness. Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
