The Chief, Facility Operations Section is responsible for the facilities operations program for all Bureau of Prisons' facilities which includes maintenance, operation, repair, and improvement of more than 100 existing facilities. The work of the Facilities Operations Section involves maintenance of facilities and systems, roofing and asphalt operations, utilities plant operations, field inspection, telecommunications and electronic security, and safety systems at all existing institutions. In addition, the section cooperates in an advisory capacity with state and local governments in the design, development, construction, and operation of penal and correctional facilities. Provides guidance and direction to regional and institution facilities personnel in buildings and facilities construction, maintenance, and operation procedures and techniques. Develops budget justifications for programs they manage. Supervises and provides guidance and direction to the communications specialist involved with the design, installation, maintenance and operation of communication systems and electronic surveillance and detection systems for institutions.
