Position serves as the Deputy (Assistant Chief), Engineering Service as the full alter ego of the Chief with responsibility for the professional Engineering programs such as Maintenance and Repair, Utility Plant Operations, Energy Management and Conservation Program, Safety, Fire Prevention, Industrial Hygiene, Emergency Preparedness, and more, as well as Construction Project Management including outlying Community Based Outpatient Clinics.
Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Major Duties include but are not limited to: Manages VHA Healthcare Facility Engineering Programs including Interdisciplinary Engineering Coordination and Integration; Facility Maintenance and Operations Management; Construction Development, Management, and Oversight; Healthcare Facility Engineering Program Administration; Healthcare Regulatory, Safety, and Accreditation Compliance; Strategic Planning; Technical Personnel Supervision; and VA Inter-Administration Stakeholder Collaboration Manages professional Engineering programs such as Facility Master Planning, Space Management, Facility Leasing and Construction Project Management Responsible for the planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and management process for Service Line programs Develops and provides the Executive Leadership Team and the clinical staff information on the methods, techniques, and procedures necessary to integrate the Engineering, Maintenance, Biomedical, Capital Management, and other Engineering programs into the mission of the Medical Center Oversees the Joint Commission (TJC) Environment of Care Programs for Utility Systems Management, Safety, Life Safety, and Medical Equipment Management for both this Medical Center and all Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) Supports the VISN Capital Assets Manager and VISN Energy Engineers with implementation of the programs Administrative and managerial responsibilities for planning, staffing, budgeting, developing, and effectively managing the Construction and Facility Master Planning Engineering Programs Responsible for strengthening and enhancing healthcare facility engineering and operations Provides management support and technical expert consultation to the Chief Engineer Responsible for the planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and management process for the Engineering Service that includes setting qualitative and quantitative standards Provides professional and technical guidance and direction and review of assigned programs, including professional engineering work in several Disciplines such as; civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, structural engineer, environmental engineering, and fire safety and safety engineering Develops Medical Center policies, procedures and resource allocations for assigned programs Provides for the budgeting and financial management for Engineering Service Researches and/or analyzes problems, issues, or program requirements related to all areas of the facility and all facets of Engineering Service Plans and/or accomplishes special projects and manages special projects for major office or program issues of broad impact Performs construction administration work Collaborates with the Chief Engineer, program managers, members of professional guilds, and others as appropriate Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm Recruitment/Relocation Incentives (Sign-on Bonus): Not authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
