The Director of Operations is located in the office of information technology ( OIT) End User Service and is located at a VA facility at field offices located throughout the nation. The purpose of the position is to provide leadership and resource management leading the development and implementation strategy required to manage End User Operations.
Major Duties: Provides leadership, planning, and management for all information technology strategy, development, and implementation in assigned Area. The incumbent enforces strict adherence to VA's standards, architectures and change control, including version and release management, governance and strategic planning, and SLA compliance. The Director of Operations oversees the integration of multiple mission-critical organization information technology processes and strategies for their areas; exercises strategic thinking and uses and applies management principles having critical impact on technology and the organization; makes recommendations on the development and implementation of programs critical to VA. Directs the operations and maintenance of VA IT functions and develops specific IT operations policies and approaches for computing and information technology within their areas. Collaborates closely with partners in the Infrastructure Operations and Enterprise Command Center Operations Divisions and other making recommendations on improvements and enhancements to services and programs to improve operational effectiveness to the following system-wide IT Operations processes. Computer equipment on the operations floor involves the use of high voltage electricity. Promotion Potential: GS-15. The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
