Serves as a Supervisory IT Specialist in the Strategic Solution Section, AMK-213.
Serves as a Unit Manager in the Custom Solutions Section (AMK-213) and is the first level manager of a technical staff of computer specialists responsible for providing planning, developmental research, analysis, programming and operational support of major national FAA computer and infrastructure systems, systems for DOT and other Federal agencies.
Managerial duties include: Planning; communicating the organization's vision and objectives; setting priorities; assigning tasks and responsibilities; monitoring and evaluating performance; coaching and developing employee capabilities; approving leave; and taking, recommending, or approving corrective/disciplinary actions as appropriate. Uses assigned budget, staff and other resources to accomplish project/program objectives.
Manages budget and requests additional resources, as needed. Contributes to budget planning processes, and projects short-term future needs. Applies a comprehensive knowledge of the technical aspects of the work directed, a detailed knowledge of budget, human resources, and other administrative policies and procedures, and a detailed understanding of the objectives of the organizational unit. Work is typically governed by established guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Resolves routine problems independently but consults with higher level management when existing guidelines are not available or applicable to complex problems. May be called upon to assist in developing new policies and procedures.
Individual and organizational performance is typically reviewed periodically by higher-level management, often through status reports and organizational performance measures, to ensure timeliness, policy compliance, and alignment with project/program objectives.
