This position is located in the Health Information Management (HIM) department at the Ft. Yates IHS Hospital. The primary purpose of this position is to provide coordination, planning, and overall direction of the Health Information Management (HIM) department and its medical records functions and processes. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
Develops and implements policies and procedures to process medico-legal documents, insurance and correspondence requests for information, and to document, store, and retrieve medical records information to conform to Federal, State, and local statutes. Establishes and monitors the quality assurance program for medical records and coordinates the program with the facilities quality assurance coordinator, using established quality control measures. Supervises Medical Records Technicians. Plans, manages, organizes, supervises and maintains the Medical Records Department of the facility by setting program goals and objectives, assigning work, rating performance, and keeping position descriptions accurate, approves leave, resolves grievances or complaints Manages and advises on the use of computer technology for collection health care information, statistical data, and management of the medical records program.
