Job Summary

The Eugene VA Health Care Center operates a Community Reintegration Service Center in Eugene, which includes substance abuse and vocational rehabilitation services, a housing program for homeless Veterans in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services, and other services for Veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Key Responsibilities

Functions or Scope of Assigned Duties include but are not limited to the following: The incumbent exercises direct supervisory responsibility over the above-stated segment of the Sterile Processing Service Line and ensuring these needs are met accurately, timely and cost effectively. The incumbent is mandated to observe all procedures pertinent to the operational requirements and responsibilities detailed in VHA, VA and ROSVAMC Directives and guidelines.

SPS has 26 FTEE's assigned, including those requiring skills in infection control, sterilization, decontamination, O.R support, medical materials management, training, quality control and assurance, computers and point of use equipment.

The incumbent spends 65% of the time managing programmatic activities for sterile processing throughout the medical center and performing supervisory, administrative and managerial duties with the remainder of the time spent on administrative reviews related to sterilization, infection control, safety, quality, training, standardization, equipment management and personal development issues to gain knowledge in the SPS field of operations.

Knowledge of surgical instruments used in operating rooms and clinic settings. Knowledge of universal precautions for safety and prevention of cross contamination. Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, medical conditions and procedures. Knowledge of sterility principles in regard to instrumentation. Ability to read and interpret written instructions and procedures.

Ability to manage, interact and deal with individuals of varying backgrounds Ability to direct staff and manage tasks to be completed. Ability to oversee and supervise all aspects of decontamination, preparation, sterilization, monitoring, and distribution of RME. Ability to perform a full range of supervisory duties, including assigning, planning and evaluating work, recommending awards, approving leave, identifying training needs, and resolving staff issues.

Ability to plan and project staffing needs and requirements. Ability to manage, interact and deal with individuals of varying backgrounds. Ability to manage, direct and adapt work to accomplish program goals and objectives, and meet new and changing program requirements. Ability to develop and recommend new or revised policies that are consistent with organizational goals and objectives.

Ability to evaluate new products and equipment, develop options, and make recommendations. Ability to manage, interpret, and present fiscal data (i.e. fund controls, contracts and equipment expenditures), forecast resource and equipment needs and administer an allocated budget. Ability to implement and incorporate regulations, policies, and procedures to manage SPS operations.
