Job Summary

You will serve as a Supervisory Physical Scientist (Minerals Director) with the Department of the Interior (DOI) AVSO. The official duty station will be Lakewood, Colorado OR align with the selectee's current official DOI duty station if applying to "location negotiable after selection". The salary listed in the announcement is at the Rest of the United States (RUS) level. The geographical locality pay will be determined at the time of selection.

Key Responsibilities

This is a Merit Promotion announcement for career and career conditional AVSO employees, Career Transition eligibles (CTAP), and those who are eligible under the hiring paths listed above. Refer to Required Documents section for more information.

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Acts as the Appraisal and Valuation Services Office (AVSO) authority for the application of economic theories and practices for surface and sub-surface mineral deposits on Federal and Indian lands. Develops and implements the Mineral Division's budget, resources, and programmatic direction. Establishes and executes the Division's long- and short-term goals.

Creates strategies for marketing to raise necessary funding for the cost of the Division's operations and mineral assessments, evaluations, and other products. Verifies compliance with on-the-job safety and health requirements for subordinate employees. Presents AVSO policies or positions at hearings, conferences, and public meetings. Participates in negotiations with outside parties regarding the appraisal and evaluation of minerals.

Requirements & Education

This position does not allow substituting education for experience. This position has a mandatory education requirement. Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, you must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.
