This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR), National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL), with one vacancy in Norman, OK or Boulder, CO.
As a Supervisory Research Meteorologist, you will perform the following duties: Administer funds, and monitor the Corporative Institute and other non-federal entities, approve Branch acquisitions and play an active role in lab-wide procurement actions. These actions include, but are not limited to, identifying needs, funds approval, requisition review, and proposal evaluation. Review and approve grant proposals.
Provide financial oversight of budget and responsibility for optimizing return on investment to balance needs of ongoing network, new technology, and budget shortfalls. Ensure Branch's scientific and engineering applications are made ready for transition to operations. Serve as a scientific leader who can advance the understanding and prediction of severe storms and the development of new tools and technologies.
Plan, coordinate, and manage assigned project(s) based on overall objectives, milestones, expected results, and constraints. Plan and execute long-range research programs and projects that address objectives of the program. Manage interactions with external partners and collaborators. Serve on agency, national and international leadership boards and other committees and working groups.
Utilize expertise to provide input on strategic and tactical decision issues brought before the board. Inform and advise management of progress, and/or issues, and/or unusual situations requiring high-level involvement. Serve as supervisor planning and distributing work to be accomplished by subordinates. Set and adjust short and long-term priorities and preparing schedules for the completion of work. Find ways to improve production or increase the quality of the work.
Evaluate the work performance of subordinates. Provide technical oversight and instruction and address poor performance as part of the performance process. Identify developmental and training needs, providing or arranging for training.
Substitution of education for specialized experience is not applicable to this vacancy. College Transcript: If you are qualifying based on education, submit a copy of your college transcript that lists college courses detailing each course by the number and department (i.e., Bio 101, Math 210, etc.), name of accredited institution, course title, number of credit hours and grade earned.
