Job Summary

The Fargo VA Health Care System is recruiting for 1 full-time Supervisory Social Worker for the Emergency Room under the Social Work service line.

As the supervisor, the incumbent assists in planning, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures; developing individual or group goals and objectives as well as monitoring, operating, evaluating, coordinating and overseeing the Social Work staff of the assigned program.

The incumbent will assure the Social Workers whom they supervise are aware of, adhere to all current directives of VHA, and meet current JCAHO standards, State licensure standards, and VA-OIG expectations. The incumbent will conduct ongoing intensive reviews and appraisals to ensure the accomplishment of objectives and adherence to standards set by governing bodies.

The incumbent is also assigned to the Emergency Room (ER) area and is responsible to provide medical, behavioral, and crisis intervention social work services to Veterans presenting to the Emergency Department and works to coordinate administrative and patient related assessments to promote effective, efficient and clinical service delivery.

The incumbent will coordinate the Emergency Department Care Plan program and the Suicide Prevention in the Emergency Department (SPED) program and be the champion for the Caring Contacts program. Duties include, but are not limited to: The position involves overseeing the delivery of specialized services designed to meet the needs of a particular population of veterans, their families, or caregivers.

The Supervisor is responsible for independently conducting thorough assessments and implementing evidence-based interventions that address the unique challenges faced by these groups. Beyond direct service delivery, the Supervisor plays a key role in program development and enhancement. This includes designing new initiatives, refining existing programs, and identifying gaps in service that need to be addressed.

Community outreach is another essential component of the role, as it involves establishing and maintaining relationships with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as non­governmental organizations. Administratively, the Supervisor is responsible for the overall management and operational oversight of the program.

This includes developing and implementing policies and procedures that guide the program's activities, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards. The Supervisor also manages the program's budget, monitors expenditures, and ensures that resources are used efficiently.

Additionally, the role involves preparing reports and maintaining data on the program's performance, which are essential for continuous quality improvement and for demonstrating the program's impact to stakeholders. With advanced knowledge of the services and benefits available from both public and private sector resources, the Supervisor works across various departments and with external agencies to develop and maintain partnerships that enhance the program's effectiveness.

The incumbent may provide clinical supervision to social work students or social workers pursuing advance practice licensure, sharing their knowledge and expertise. Additionally, they will provide leadership, direction, orientation, coaching, in-service training, staff development, and/or continuing education programs for assigned social work staff.

They serve on committees, work groups, and/or task forces at the facility, VISN and national level, or in the community as deemed appropriate by the Social Work Executive or designee. Additionally, they will provide consultation and education to medical residents on social work practice and VA policy and procedure. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Available (Ad-hoc) Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
