Duties Assist surgeons and OR team members during procedures; function as primary scrub person for all surgical specialties. Provide age-appropriate patient care for adult and geriatric patients; maintain patient dignity and privacy. Practice and maintain strict sterile and aseptic techniques; identify and correct breaks in sterility. Assist surgeons with tasks such as preparing grafts, suctioning, retracting, applying staples, cutting sutures, and preparing prostheses. Anticipate surgeon needs, monitor patient status, and respond quickly to deviations during surgery. Perform basic patient care tasks; safely transport patients to and from the OR. Support training of residents, students, and new OR staff in sterile technique, instrument handling, and OR procedures. Procure supplies, equipment, blood products, and required items for surgical cases. Communicate professionally with staff, patients, and visitors; remain calm in stressful situations. Participate in preoperative preparation, positioning, and equipment setup for complex cases. Identify and report safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, and infection-control concerns. Collaborate with the RN to plan and coordinate surgical procedures and ensure needed supplies are available. Assist with creating and updating preference cards and case carts; work with SPD for specialty instruments and supplies. Protect sensitive patient data in accordance with federal privacy laws and VA policies. Work Schedule: 7:00-3:30 (On call) Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
