Key Responsibilities

The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position. The incumbent resolves inquiries that deal with a variety of technical and/or complex procedural issues.

Determines appropriate assignment, acknowledges receipt, reviews, analyzes, and evaluates information provided by customers regarding the problem or issue. If necessary, elicits additional information that may be necessary to clarify the problem and contacts third parties for information verification as necessary.

Reviews, analyzes, and processes cases involving all types of individual and/or business master file taxpayer initiated inquiries, claims, and internally generated adjustments for TAS/Innocent Spouse/Frivolous Filer, etc. This level of work involves current and prior year tax rules, regulations, and procedures. Reviews completed case files for tax computations and procedural accuracy. Provides feedback to field personnel on quality of work product.

Recommends additional training and reports any quality trends identified to management. Monitors inventory through its conclusions using established and ad-hoc reports and databases. Updates internal reporting system(s) to capture data on the number of referrals received in the function and completes monthly reports, which are submitted through the management chain to Headquarters Staff.

Identifies and anticipates problem areas, error trends, and systemic and procedural problems. Works with analysts and management, at the appropriate levels, to develop solutions. STANDARD POSITION DESCRIPTIONS (SPD): PD95437 Visit the IRS SPD Library to access the position descriptions.

Requirements & Education

A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements.

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
