This position serves as a State Certified Special Education Teacher for the Great Plains Area Youth Regional Treatment Center (GPAYRTC). The instructional area(s) identified will normally be the general special education in elementary and/or high school settings, working with students who evidence a variety of disabilities compounded with either learning and/or behavioral difficulties. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Participates in educational activities, such as professional workshops that improve personal skills for providing better services to students.
Electing, developing, adapting and implementing appropriate instructional methods and techniques utilizing available resources to provide for academic achievement. Follows State/Federal/BIA/Tribal regulations and local agency policies and procedures for screening, referral, evaluation and placement of students into programs for student with disabilities.
Maintains the Chief Gall Education Program accreditation for the YRTC as mandated by the State of South Dakota Department of Education and Cultural Affairs, or the North Central Association - Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement, and/or the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) or the designated accrediting entity.
Supervisory duties include the daily management of the paraprofessional staff member responsible for daily educational assistance.
