This position is the supervisor of all Utility Systems Operators (USO) at Lee County VA Healthcare Center, which is a position within the Facilities Management Service (FMS) of Bay Pines VA Medical Center in Cape Coral, FL.
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Technically and administratively responsible for control of all work and activity related to the USO section and must account to his/her superior for the quality, quantity, and timeliness of work performed by the Section. Requisitions materials, supplies and equipment as needed, schedules delivery, etc.
Makes assignments to USO employees based on priorities, selective considerations of difficulty, the requirements of their assignments, and the capabilities of the employees. Establishes 24 hrs./day, 7 days/week schedules for the routine activities, and special practices as required. Reviews the work of employees at intervals to assure quality, effectiveness, efficiency and completeness of work. Provides technical and administrative advice and instructions to subordinates.
Identifies development and training needs of USO Section employees, making recommendations to the Assistant Chief, Facility Management Service to provide or make provisions for such development and training. Sets performance standards for all employees. Oversees contract service personnel while they are working on site, which involves work instructions, directing, problem solving, coordination, and work review.
Develops specifications for yearly contracts and one-time service contracts. Assists contractor in locating system components that are involved in their contract. Evaluates and performs corrective actions/repairs in response to service calls such as elevator malfunctions or entrapments, HVAC issues, plumbing leaks or blockages, and more. Determines modifications and updates to new equipment and existing systems, when necessary, to provide the optimal performance desired.
Ensures adequate spare parts inventory as required by the Section workload. Maintains safe, efficient, and uninterrupted utility services throughout all patient care areas and the entire medical center. Performs other related duties as assigned.
