This position serves as the Visual Information Specialist within the Strategic Communications & Enterprise Engagement Branch of the Planning Performance & Integration Office, a dynamic unit of the WHS. Located at the Headquarters in the National Capital Region, the incumbent is a key member of a team dedicated to advancing the enterprise wide mission of Washington Headquarters Services and the Department of War through creative visual communication solutions.
The Visual Information Specialist is responsible for the conception, design, and production of high-impact graphics, audio, and visual products, tailored to inform, engage, and inspire diverse audiences including senior leadership, internal stakeholders, and external partners.
Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Conceptualizes, designs, and produces dynamic visual products, motion graphics, and 3D animations for print, web, and digital display platforms.
Applies advanced visual communication principles and utilizes industry-standard design software (such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Autodesk Maya, or Cinema 4D) to integrate audio, video, typography, and animation into cohesive multimedia deliverables supporting strategic organizational messaging. Conducts audience analysis to design and develop high-impact visual presentations for executive-level briefings, formal speeches, and educational lectures.
Translates complex technical concepts, strategic initiatives, and organizational data into clear, persuasive visual narratives across diverse formats, including interactive digital decks, high-resolution slides, and printed briefing packages. Researches and transforms complex performance data, technical reports, and enterprise-wide initiatives into original illustrations, infographics, and publication layouts without the use of pre-established templates.
Consults directly with leadership and subject matter experts from project inception to completion to determine optimal media formats, reproduction methods, and visual branding standards. Operates digital cameras, lighting setups, and video recording equipment to fulfill official photography and basic videography assignments.
Documents high-visibility ceremonies, operational events, official command activities, and captures studio-quality official portraits in support of strategic communications and historical records. Catalogers, formats, and embeds comprehensive metadata into digital photo and video files in strict compliance with Department of Defense Visual Information standards and Associated Press (AP) Style captioning guidelines.
Adheres to operational security (OPSEC) and public affairs release protocols to upload, archive, and publish cleared visual assets to the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service (DVIDS) and organizational media repositories.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis.
If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
