The primary purpose of this position is to plan, construct, and repair containers and material handling items from wood or wood substitute materials; pack, preserve, and crate items for shipment and/or storage; brace and block items for shipment, and operate fork lifts to facilitate loading and unloading.

Major Duties

Makes and repairs a wide range of standardized supply, shipping, and storage containers such as boxes, crates, pallets, dividers, and storage bins of various sizes and shapes from wood and wood substitute materials. Secures hazardous and/or non-hazardous cargo inside or upon conveyances that have regular and rectangular shapes, and unobstructed cargo areas such as box cars, gondolas, flat cars, vans, and/or trucks. Performs a wide variety of standard and specialized preservation and packing work. Performs duties in a safe manner, utilizing safety practices and procedures, and complying with established safety rules and regulations. Operates electric, LPG, or diesel-powered forklift trucks capable of lifting loads weighing less than 10,000 pounds and as high as 168 inches to facilitate loading and unloading duties. Uses and maintains various types of hand and/or power tools, such as nail and staple guns; hand, radial, and circular saws; hammers, joiners, and squares, etc.
