Accounting Technician provides structured experience and training in accounting processes, internal controls, documentation standards utilizing automated systems to record, track, and support financial transactions. Follows defined, step-by-step local SOPs, desk guides, checklists, and job aids for routine transactions support work. Uses system-generated status screens/control reports to verify data, routing and discrepancies.
Ensures rejects are elevated to a higher-level technician/supervisor.
Include but not limited to: Apply understanding of standard general ledgers (SGL) and basic financial documents such as travel orders, invoices, receiving reports and employee pay documents. Review undelivered orders and payables for a variety of reasons to include outstanding balances, payments, delivery dates, amendments and proper costing. Record payments from obligating documents in the Finance package to reflect accurate obligation balance.
Utilize computer programs under Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Review Agent Cashier daily deposits to ensure completeness and accuracy. Process payment vendors/customers after accuracy verification of supporting documents. Utilize Microsoft Excel for data entry, creating formulas, sorting, filtering, formatting, and creating pivot tables.
Utilize Microsoft Outlook to manage emails and contacts, schedule appointments, set reminders, follow-up, etc. Maintains files in accordance with local procedures, and supports audit readiness by ensuring documentation is properly labeled, retained, and retrievable.
