Job Summary

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (A/MSA) is responsible for performing a variety of technical support duties that facilitate the work of physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nursing assistants, and other members of the medical facility who provide direct patient care. A/MSAs are considered chief sources of patient care and patient flow information. The A/MSA is a key member of the patient care team providing crucial administrative advice and guidance.

Key Responsibilities

Duties included but may be limited to: Advanced Medical Support Assistant will be responsible for training and obtaining material needed to train personnel hired as Medical Support Assistants. Incumbent's responsibility for training includes, but is not limited to, in-service education of on-the-job skills, following proper contingency plan, and nurse call system.

Providing coverage of all areas of responsibility; conducting ongoing reviews to ensure quality of work; ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments; Providing guidance to staff members, to include changes in policies and procedures; assisting lead with orientation and providing on-the-job training for new employees, ensuring that all training requirements are met; organizing the work structure of his/her assigned areas; and acting as liaison between other MSA's and staff in order to resolve day to-day conflicts.

Incumbent must have well developed knowledge of medical terminology and medical office experience. Incumbent's responsibility for training includes, but is not limited to, in-service education of on-the-job skills, following proper contingency plan, and nurse call system.

Incumbent is responsible for participating in development of training for med/surg wards and units as well as specialty areas including, Decedent Affairs, Polytrauma Rehab, Palliative Care, and Acute Psychiatry. Incumbent will also be responsible for training auxiliary personnel, such as temporary, work study, and volunteers used for intermittent heavy workload areas.

Incumbent will assist the lead/supervisors during meetings with all Medical Support Assistants to relay instructions on changes and new procedures affecting ward clerical activities.
