The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) under Nursing Services is responsible for performing a variety of technical and clerical support duties that facilitate the work of physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the Orlando VA Healthcare system who provide direct patient care assist the Veterans and their families on a host of administrative matters, Medical Support Assistants are considered chief sources of patient care an patient flow information.
Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) Responsibilities include functions such as serving as the initial point of contact for the Community Living Center. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to scheduling patient appointments, tracking, reviewing, and responding to electronic orders, consults, and other elements in the electronic medical record and medical systems.
The Advanced Medical Support Assistant will perform a full range of clerical duties including but not limited to scheduling, canceling, or re-scheduling patient appointments and/or consults.
interpreting and verifying providers' orders in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelines, preparing for clinic visits, monitoring inpatient appointments for areas of responsibility, preparing travel requests as needed for patients' transportation to their appointments, verifying and updating patient demographics, processing all emergency and non-emergence transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals.
The AMSA at this grade level will function as the timekeeper for the assigned unit; will have a thorough knowledge of timekeeping procedures as well as VATAS and the ACUStaf timekeeping program. Will track consistent assignment on automated tool ( spreadsheet or database as locally preferred).
