Job Summary

This is an internal recruitment for the Hematology/Oncology section at the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System. The preferred Advanced Practice Nurse would have 2-3 years of clinical experience in the specialty of Hematology/Oncology.

VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards The Hematology/Oncology section at VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Nurse Practitioner to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of clinical experience in hematology and/or oncology, demonstrating advanced clinical knowledge and a commitment to providing exceptional patient care in this specialized field.

Duties include but are not limited to the following: Independently manage a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on hematologic and oncologic diseases using evidence-based practice. Develop and implement an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management. Demonstrate leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.

Order and interpret labs, tests, and diagnostic studies, including tests appropriate for staging, monitoring, restaging and surveillance of hematologic and oncologic diseases. Prescribe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and biologic therapies for the treatment of hematologic and oncologic diseases. Initiates referrals and consults to specialty services. Provide education to patients and their families.

Assess and adjust the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Perform bone marrow biopsy/aspiration procedures when indicated. Cancer Care Coordinator duties include some of the following: Responsible for overall coordination of cancer program activities involving direct patient care in the hospital as well as with the community and outreach clinics.

Responsible for coordination of agendas, minutes and data analysis for Cancer Committee Meetings, meeting arrangements and documentation of case studies for the facility Tumor Board Conferences. Coordinate with VA and affiliate staff providers, at various levels in support of ongoing performance improvement activities related to the cancer program.

Assist the Chief of the VA Oncology Section, the Cancer Committee and the overall organization with preparation for internal and external inspections, accreditation visits and process review activities as prescribed by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm Compressed/Flexible: May be authorized at the discretion of the supervisor. Telework: This is not a telework position.
