Job Summary

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month.

Key Responsibilities

The primary purpose of this position is: as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in accomplishing trades and labor inspection work in the Quality Assurance Flight. Trains reservist in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. DUTIES: 1. Performs work planning responsibilities. Plans use of workers, equipment, facilities, and materials on a daily or by project basis.

Adheres to work priorities, project schedules, resources, and detailed work plans established by higher-level supervisors. Follows customary work cycles and sequences in planning work assignments. Tracks and reports progress on work assignments and requests authority to adjust worker assignments and to use overtime, equipment, and materials to meet schedules.

Recommends changes to schedules, priorities, and work sequences as necessary and makes minor deviations in procedures or redirects resources under their control to overcome problems such as equipment failure, material delays, or unplanned absences. Confers with supervisors and other appropriate personnel to resolve quality control problems affecting production. 2. Performs work direction responsibilities.

Assigns work to individuals and provides technical direction and/or help in accomplishing difficult work steps and processes associated with quality assurance/inspection relative to repair and modification of unit aircraft and/or aircraft systems. Observes work in progress to anticipate and resolve problems, reassigns personnel within group supervised, and coordinates work among workers and other supervisors to maintain work progress to meet schedules.

Interprets controversial technical orders and work directives and advises employees of revisions or changes to same. Inspects completed work for quality and work order requirements. Reports possible or actual work delays to superiors. 3. Performs administrative responsibilities. Participates with employees in the development of performance plans and recommends them to supervisors. Advises employees of performance expectations.

Provides proper guidance and direction, continuous feedback on strengths and weaknesses. Holds employees responsible for satisfactory completion of work assignments and recommends performance ratings in accordance with regulations. Recommends appropriate recognition and corrective action, as needed, in performance management. Recommends the most suitable applicants for vacant positions. Explains classification determinations to subordinate employees.

Recommends restructuring positions when necessary to achieve the most effective and economical utilization of personnel. Recommends training based on needs assessment and mission requirements. Plans work schedules and provide on-the-job training for assigned reservists. Maintains work reports and records relating to section, e.g., progress, production, cost, personnel, equipment, materials, and time and attendance. Assists supervisors in planning overall leave schedule. 4.

Ensures education in, compliance with, and practice of security directives, good safety, and health habits in all work areas. Ensures employees with access to classified information comply with security directives.

All known security violations are reported to the proper authority immediately when discovered. Submits reports in accordance with reporting directives. Ensures safety equipment and protective clothing/gear are worn when mandated by regulations. Any condition which might pose a hazard to safety or health is reported to the appropriate authority as soon as possible after detection. Reserve Training.

Administers the reserve training and quality programs for element ensuring consistent standards throughout the element for traditional reservists and ARTs.
