Duties and responsibilities of the ASSISTANT NURSE MANAGER (ANM) INTERVENTIONAL AND SPECIALTY CARE include, but are not limited to: The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager (NM) with supervisory duties and responsibility and accountability for the 24/7 operations of their designated units. They provide coverage for other ANMs as needed.
The ANM is responsible for performance improvement data, customer service, patient satisfaction, and employee and patient safety. They will interview applicants and review employee relations. They will maintain the standards of care and practice, and the work environment. The ANM actively develops and manages collaborative partnerships with physicians and other clinicians. They coach staff and work to resolve employee conduct and performance issues.
They participate in service and healthcare system committees, and task forces to improve nursing practice and care. The ANM identifies the educational needs of staff and designs an education plan to meet area needs. Additionally, they work at facilitating and supporting student nurse clinical experiences, as well as orienting new nurses. They are guided by EEO principles and work in partnership with the AFGE.
They will work in concert with the NM to arrange for managerial coverage to handle administrative and clinical issues in their absence. They promote a culture of safety and models the principles of a High Reliability Organization in all interactions. They review all electronic patient event reports for their assigned unit to ensure resolution is completed.

Responsible for participating within unit based and/or organizational level Shared Governance councils, utilizing clinical expertise, evidence-based practice, and knowledge to assist with finding solutions to problems or issues to improve the quality care provided to our veterans. They assist in policy and standard operating procedure development, review and updating based on evidenced based practice.
They stay informed of programmatic changes provided by VA Central Office, VISN or local leadership, and maintain knowledge of standards of care and accrediting bodies' requirements for Interventional and Specialty Care areas. The ANM has responsibility and accountability for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and provides input into the evaluation of individual staff performance.
They function as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. They enhance care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes. The ANM seeks knowledge from professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
They adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels. They equip staff with tools for culturally competent care and promotes a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
