Job Summary

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager with supervisory duties and oversees 24/7 operations of assigned units, providing coverage as needed. The ANM directs staff orientation, training, and development, and contributes to performance evaluations. Serving as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor, they collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement evidence-based programs that improve care outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

The ANM functions as a clinical expert with full responsibility and accountability for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care using age-specific considerations. Coordinates care with a focus on patient education, self-management, and satisfaction across the continuum of care.

Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to influence outcomes and leads innovative process improvement initiatives. Duties include but not limited to the following: Engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth. Adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.

Equips staff with tools for culturally competent care and promotes a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes. Cultivates alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence. Contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care.

Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. Aligns nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution. Promote an n inclusive workplace valuing diversity to achieve the organizations vision and mission.

Preferred Experience: 2-3 years PACU /PeriOp experience preferred 1-2 years of leadership experience preferred (Charge Nurse, ANM) VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Work Schedule: 7:30 am to 4:00 pm M-F Telework: Not Authorized Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
