The Assistant Nurse Manager position is located in Acute Care, 4 West at the West Haven VA Healthcare Systems campus. This position is a full-time at 40 hours per week.
The responsibilities of the Assistant Nurse Manager include but are not limited to the following: Provides leadership in the application of the nursing process to client care, organizational processes and/or system, improving outcomes at the program or service level. Promotes compliance with professional practice standards in designated clinical areas in order to improve delivery of care, promote patient safety monitoring and unit level nursing performance.
Contributes to the evaluation of the unit's nursing productivity, staffing methodology, improving systems/workflow. Develops staffing plans, time schedules and monitors leave to ensure adequate staffing for patient care.
Performs delegated duties, i.e., develops time schedules, completes performance evaluations, facilitates unit-based orientation and initiates or recommends disciplinary actions, responsible for performance improvement, customer service/patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety, employee relations, standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards.
Responsible for supporting and reinforcing the framework of a high reliable organization by committing to a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Assigned to provide assistance within his/her unit and is expected to coordinate his/her schedule to provide coverage to the Nurse Manager and will require minimal supervision when covering. Performs duties independently on a daily basis and reports directly to the Nurse Manager.

The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN), or Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) must be fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission On Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
